PUBLIC WORKS

What We Do

The Yekooche Public Works department is composed of four staff members. One Public Works Manager and three assistants.  The goal of this department is to ensure that the community is properly maintained in order to meet the needs of community members and those who visit/work in Yekooche.

This is a rather large job. It mainly consists of maintaining the infrastructure of the community. Infrastructure means more than just community member houses – it means they are responsible for all tasks relating to water, wastewater, roads, bridges, solid waste management, public buildings and a multitude of other tasks.

Please see below for a list of some of the tasks associated with this department.

  • Hydrant flushing

  • Septic tank maintenance
  • Lagoon defoliation

  • Brush control
  • Pot hole filling

The Public Works department also has a vision for change in the future. They want to have their staff secure more operating licenses. They want to provide more training opportunities. For each property in Yekooche they want to provide a pamphlet to outline services so that community members become more aware of what is happening in their homes.

As well, they hope to be strong participants in the many community infrastructure capital improvements that are being discussed by Chief and Council.
