Silviculture
In May of 2002, Yekooche First Nation hired an experienced forestry contract supervisor to help facilitate and implement their Silviculture program. This supervisor was able to secure sufficient silviculture contracts to employ over 20 band members for the entire season.

Interested community members were given specialized training in First Aid, small engine repair, falling and bucking and basic forestry skills. The training combined with experience gained on the job resulted in a highly skilled field crew that succesfully completed over 15 contracts in 2002. Contracts included tree planting, grass seeding, brushing and weeding, pile burning and cone collection.

Resource Development
Currently Yekooche First Nation is exploring various partnerships with the local community for resource development in the areas of forestry and mining.

Yekooche has successfully obtained a forest license to log mostly pine beetle infested timber in the Fort St James areas. Along with a local contractor as a business partner, they have formed a company, Ruby Rock Resources.  They have done some training and have employed band members.

EBusiness
Funded jointly by the CFDC in Stuart Nechako and Western Economic Diversification Canada, the Yekooche have embarked on a project to develop and establish a community E-Business to market Native arts and crafts produced locally in the community. The project will include the development of a viable business plan, an ecommerce website and an effective marketing strategy as well as training in business management for interested Band members. Many Yekooche members have already participated in the following workshops:

  • EBusiness and Business Planning
  • Marketing Strategies Workshop
  • Time Management
  • Developing Public Speaking Skills
  • Conducting Effective Meetings
  • Managing Money

The development of this website is a part of the EBusiness project. Development of the products and crafts which will be listed for sale on this site is in progress.
